Sustainability Spotlight: Truman’s

The Netflix of Cleaning – New Sustainable Cleaning Company

I came across Truman’s as I was browsing LinkedIn earlier this week. I saw what I thought was a too good to be true, targeted marketing ad, I was hooked…and like that, Binge Cleaning is now a thing. I looked further into their products and found myself purchasing the starter kit shortly thereafter. I was able to talk with the founders of the company, to say I am impressed is an understatement! They were super informative and helped answer any question I had. The thought and innovation presented here is truly before it’s time! Thank you,Truman‘s.

The Truman’s Story

We started Truman’s because, while we’re somewhat obsessed with cleaning, we’re totally obsessed with reducing waste and clutter. Nowhere could we have a bigger impact than in the overcrowded world of home cleaning products, where so many specialized cleaners in plastic bottles clamor for our dollars with “fresh new scents” and trendy colors. Nobody needs a gazillion cleaning products with harsh chemicals cluttering their cabinets, and our planet certainly doesn’t need the plastic empties. That’s why we offer just 4 cleaners with refill cartridges — all non-toxic — that safely and effectively clean virtually all of your home’s hard surfaces.

So that’s Truman’s. Cleaning glass and taking names.

BORN IN THE USA. (SORRY, BRUCE. TRUMAN’S IS THE BOSS NOW.)

Fed up with the clutter of cleaning, Truman’s partnered with an industry-leading manufacturer to create 4 non-toxic cleaners: The Glass Is Always Cleaner, Everything and the Kitchen Sink, More Shower to You and Floors Truly. Truman’s patented refill cartridges ship right to your doorstep, skipping the markup of retail and eliminating the single-use plastic cleaning bottles.

Truman’s products are assembled in the heart of the midwest in Toledo, Ohio, and nearly all of the equipment used in our factory is sourced regionally.

More on Sustainability and cleaning up the cleaning industry

Big Cleaning’s Plastic Problem

Since production of plastic took off in the 1950s — when Life magazine extolled a future of “Throwaway Living” — the planet has accumulated 9.2 billion tons of plastic. That’s about 1.3 tons for every man, woman and child on Earth. Less than a fifth of all plastic gets recycled globally. In the U.S., it’s less than 10 percent. And Big Cleaning is responsible for the production of billions of single-use plastic bottles every year.

Truman’s patented refill cartridges allow you to use your bottle time and time again, cutting plastic waste by more than 90%. In fact, we can save approximately 4 billion pounds of water from being shipped and 300 million pounds of plastic being used if just 5% of Americans choose Truman’s over the traditional big cleaning brands. Clean with Truman’s, clean your conscience 😉

CLEANING WAS CLUTTERED.

When did cleaning get so complicated, and who is behind the confusion on aisle 9? It really shouldn’t take a chemistry degree to figure out which cleaner to use on which surface. So we created Truman’s.

A CLEANING SUBSCRIPTION? REALLY??

It’s not an exaggeration to say there’s a subscription for everything today — even cars! So why would you want a subscription for cleaning products? You wouldn’t. At least not traditional cleaning products. This concept will spread like wild fire, and before you now it Truman’s and Chill we be a trending hashtag!

Shipping ready-to-use spray cleaners is expensive and taxing on the environment. Think about it — a pallet of ready-to-use bottles (~750) weighs more than 15 times as much as the same number of refill cartridges…and uses 30 times the plastic! Truman’s Starter Kits give you a 30-day trial for just $15 and ship free. A standard refill plan (4 cartridges per cleaner type every 6 months) activates after the trial, and you can pause or supplement based on your cleaning habits.

My Thoughts

I am beyond happy to see progressive companies, like Truman’s, using innovative ideals to produce and ship goods. This will start a new wave of deep diving the packaging for other companies, and leaving a standard for other startups to hit. Taking a personal responsibility as they have lowers their cost, cost to consumer, and gives back to the environment and wild lands we all love. It is a win/win for all involved. Having safe, non-harmful cleaning supplies definitely eases the mind of consumers, just something else we do not have to worry about in this crazy world.

With the subscription services at an all time high, why not have your cleaning supplies on the same routine delivery system! This makes the task mindless and exciting when you receive the refills.
